Getting Started
Consider the following questions:
• Have you had difficulty holding a job?
• Find that you can not seem to maintain significant relationships?
• Are you eating or sleeping too much or too little?
• Are you avoiding people, places or things you used to enjoy?
• Do you worry excessively?
• Find you can't let things go?
• Does life feel like it's just too hard?
If you've answered yes to any of the above questions, it may be time to seek help. For some, getting started is the most difficult part.
Here are some guidelines to consider when looking for a therapist:
• Be sure the individual is a licensed/certified professional.
• Inquire about educational and experiential background.
• If the clinician does not accept insurance or your insurance, ask about a sliding scale.
• Be sure that the office is conveniently located so that you will be able to make your appointments.
• Don't be afraid to ask questions.
• Beginning therapy can be an anxiety provoking experience, give it time. If you don't feel comfortable, find someone you do feel comfortable with.
Most importantly, don't give up!
